Plan & Prepare

When you’re in the great outdoors it’s important to be aware of the elements so you can effectively plan your walking experience. High tides, strong winds and large ocean swells all influence your choice and ability to walk on the nearby beach routes close to some sections of the Great Ocean Walk. The Great Ocean Walk is a long-distance walk but it also offers a range of options for walkers with varying skill levels. Walk for one day or a few days, sampling the finest sections, or undertake the entire eight day long-distance experience. Along the way you’ll find a range of accommodation, guided and self-guided tours, transport, equipment and great food and wine.

It is important to carry an up to date copy of the Great Ocean Walk Information Guide & Official Map (1:25,000 map) or the Great Ocean Walk Official Walker’s Maps Booklet.
